It may seem odd at first but this is what thousands of Irish people do every year. And their favourite destination is Hungary, where the beauty of Budapest, the spas, and the nightlife offer a great way to spend time when not sitting in the dentists chair. So why do people do this? Cost is the main factor of course, with treatments up to 70 per cent cheaper than in Ireland. So if you need a lot of work done, you can save a lot of money. Agreeing that cost is an issue, Dr Ildiko Cservenyk, director of Access Smile, says: Once clients see the quality of the work, our premises, meet our dentists, quality becomes the main issue. Many of our patients are referred by friends and family and they come because they see and like the transformation that good dental work can achieve. Our work is driven by quality of care that goes beyond the dental chair, he adds. For us, every client is a VIP and this is the basis of our success. Access Smile was established more than five years ago in Ireland. We have two main types of client, adds Dr Gabriella Nyri, chief dentist (pictured). Many have a history of neglect, so they need extensive restoration work implants, crowns, bridges. Others come to get a nicer smile, for example with veneers and with that, a more confident personality. Most people feel vulnerable in the dentists chair and this can be even more so when abroad. We do our best to eliminate this feeling, so our patients go home feeling great about the the whole experience, says Dr Cservenyk. With Access Smile, you can be assured of lifelong care. With a permanent clinic in Dublin offering consultations as well as aftercare five days a week, you can benefit from top- class dental service back home as well, ensuring your new smile remains beautiful for years. Healthy on holiday: As organics and alternative therapies become more popular, more people are opting to use their holidays to look after body and soul writes daragH reddin L ets be honest: theres nothing particularly salubrious about camping in Ireland. Either you pitch your tent in one county and are so assailed by the elements you wake up in another, or are traumatised to discover that a family of earwigs have made their home in your belly button during a long, sleepless night. Music festivals are hardly going to leave you feeling invigorated either. If youre not too wasted to make it back to your tent, theres a good chance youll wreak havoc in the campsite which, after one too many drinks, takes on the semblance of an epic assault course with tent wires seemingly strategically placed to bring you careering to your already mud-soaked knees. And if theres one scenario guaranteed to have campers shrieking in terror its being confronted by a three-day-old Portaloo. Shudder. The good news is that camping doesnt have to be hard work, not where yurts are concerned at least. Traditionally used by nomads of Central Asia, these large wood-lattice-framed structures are more like circular bungalows than humble tents and are ideal for anyone hoping to become one with nature without the attendant stress or threat of gatecrashing livestock. It wont yurt: Spanish hotel The Hoopoe Yurt Hotel near the Andalucian white village of Cortes de la Frontera, next to Malaga, certainly looked like luxury camping: tall, circular tents as big as any Dublin apartment, with wooden floors; solar-powered showers and self-composting loos; home-made olive oil soaps; exotic furniture sourced from all corners of the globe; alfresco massage and yoga; cordon-bleu cookery made from locally- produced food, and double beds with the softest white linen. However, no amount of glamping could prepare me for the huge spider on the ceiling of our yurt. In one millisecond my first night of tented romance came to a juddering halt: I was to lie back and think of Rentokil. Fortunately, these arachnoids were mere glitches in an otherwise exquisite experience. You cant help but unwind. Enveloped in rugged countryside Grazalema mountains on one side, cork oak forests on the other, the beautiful Moorish city of Ronda a 45-minute drive away I delighted in the shadow theatre of the trees leaves on canvas; how the yurts glowed in the dark like paper lanterns; the Technicolor dragonflies; the silence. The luxury eco retreat Teapot Lane, in Leitrim, features five acres of woodland, two restored country cottages and three high-end yurts (each with king-sized beds and pot- bellied stoves) and is the perfect pick-me-up for pent- up city slickers in need of a little rustic TLC.
